During 22/23 November 2012 a very active cold front crossed many parts of the UK bringing heavy rain and very strong winds. This occurred during a notably wet and windy spell and was one of a number of events that contributed to major flooding and widespread disruption across southwest England. The cold front, although on the face of it exhibiting classical characteristics, is shown to be rather unusual. This is illustrated using data from a variety of operational observing systems.
