This article presents three infamous Indian west-coast cyclones, one that brought death and destruction to Pakistan and a rare cyclone that entered the Gulf of Oman. Historically, cyclonic storms in the region are defined as Beaufort Force 10 or more (>48kn) and cyclones as Force 12 or more (>64kn). It also postulates that recent increases in sea surface temperatures across the southern part of the Arabian Sea have led to a commensurate increase in cyclone activity, particularly during the post-monsoon months of October and November.
