An account of the locally heavy, wet snowfall which took place early to mid-morning Monday 28 December 2020 is given. The downward penetration of the snowfall on to land above about 120m over the West Berkshire Downs is discussed when soundings were indicating a freezing level near to 630m. The snowfall was heavy enough to break down tree branches, and developed after a new centre to Storm Bella had formed, just in advance of passage of the associated old occlusion, over the relatively warm waters of Weymouth Bay. This occluded front was also producing a maximum reported 16-17cm snow depth on higher ground to the east and north of Stoke-on-Trent (Staffs), with a light snow cover extending as far north as Cheshire.
