Taking a good weather photo
Thomas, Kevin
The advent of high-quality cameras on mobile phones has made the process of taking photographs of the weather while out and about that much easier. Even so, some would-be photographers may appreciate a little guidance on what makes a good weather photo. Although many published photographs are taken on high-quality DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) cameras, just because an image has been taken on a mobile phone does not mean that the photograph cannot be a great one (Figure 1). Recognition of this was given by the introduction of the mobile phone category in the 2022 Weather Photographer of the Year (WPOTY) competition. Importantly, access to a mobile phone means that most people are more likely to have a camera available to them on those occasions when an aspect of the weather catches the attention. After all, it is better to have a camera than no camera at all!</p>
