This brochure describes the practical uses of information provided by weather satellites over the North Sea. In addition to weather reports from space, there are now water reports too. The Tidal Waters division of the Piblic Works Department studies the data supplied by satellite imagery taken over the North Sea, after they have been received and processed by the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI). The images furnish important information for all kinds of services, organisations and branches of industry in the North Sea region. This information is important for environmental monitoring of the North Sea and for research in the field of marine biology, chemistry and water movement. It can be used by researchers, policy-makers and managers of the North Sea coast and fishermen. The aim of this brochure is to inform these groups of "consumers" about the uses of satellite imagery in their daily work.</p>
