Over the past year, ECMWF has continued its research on an end-to-end Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Direct Observation Prediction (AI-DOP) model. In previous Newsletter articles (McNally et al., 2024 and McNally et al., 2025), we reported the first demonstration that medium-range forecasts using an AI-DOP concept could be produced. This update summarises the progress made during 2025 and outlines the next steps for this rapidly evolving research track.</div>
