Distinct clouds, such as cap clouds, Tsurushi (a type of lenticular cloud) and Hata (banner cloud-like clouds), frequently form around Mount Fuji, an isolated peak with a slightly elliptical conical shape. Here, we examine their characteristics and occurrence patterns. Cap and Tsurushi clouds formed in the morning during summer under relatively strong west-southwesterly winds with weak shear. These winds were roughly perpendicular to the mountain axis and generally favoured mountain-wave generation. Hata clouds occur during the daytime under west-northwesterly winds with strong vertical shear in winter. These winds were approximately parallel to the mountain axis and the clouds formed near or above local humidity maxima.</div>
