Applications of weather radar systems is the only book to review all aspects of the increasingly important contribution made by weather radar data in the fields of meteorology, hydrology and the environmental sciences. This expanded second edition has been revised and updated with the inclusion of important new materiel.
This book is a guide to the uses of radar data to address practical problems in meteorology, hydrology and the environmental sciences. Although early chapters deal with the basic theory of single polarization, Doppler and polarization diversity radar, the emphasis of the book is on the characteristics of radar data and the uses of radar for measurement and forecasting in specific practical applications.
Problems associated with radar network design are discussed, and the contribution made by surface-based radar systems in the measurement of precipitation from space is outlined. rainfall forecasting and the use of radar data as input in a flow forecasting model are described. A range of severe weather algorithms are presented, some of which have been published only recently. Current prospects for radar to be flown on satellites are reviewed, and the uses of radar for specific applications and meteorological research are discussed.
(source : 4ème de couverture)
